What is Visual Merchandising
Visual merchandising-, until recently called simply merchandising, is the activity of promoting the sale of goods, especially by their presentation in retail outlets.(New Oxford Dictionary of English, 1999, Oxford University Press). This includes combining product, environment, and space into a stimulating and engaging display to encourage the sale of a product or service. It has become an important element in retailing that is a team effort involving senior management, architects, merchandising managers, buyers, the visual merchandising director, designers, and staff. Visual merchandising starts with the store building itself. The management decides on the store design to reflect the products the store is going to sell and how to create a warm, friendly, and approachable atmosphere for its potential customers. Many elements can be used by visual merchandisers in creating displays, including colour, lighting, space, product information, sensory inputs such as smell, touch, and sound as well as ...

By Dr. Ravi Singh Arora
Considering solutions for Mumbai’s 911 I read http://candidculture.com/2008/11/28/the-highs-and-lows/ it raise some key issues, re: potential segmentation and the need for alignment to appropriate media channels. Terrorism in my view is not born out of frustration. It is vile and a portrayal of cowardliness. Many issues for India and Pakistan are a result of a mis-managed and some historians have suggested deliberate ‘divide-and-rule’ policy/legacy. I often feel that independence day in India is both a celebration of freedom but also recognition of British Raj’s oppression. The people of the lands that remain divided cannot move on. They will and should not forget their divided families. I still believe in the power to convince people of their wrong doings by first reasoning and asking them to look into their hearts for a solution. Having also read a recent piece from another / completely separate blogger on Obama’s attempt to ‘reach’ both sides, India and Pakistan to work towards solutions, the ...

The Sikh Lifestyle
I was going to write a response to another thread, then I kind of went off on a tangent, and thought best to post this... Oftentimes when posed with a question, the simplest solution for me is to 'wait for the answer to arrive on its own terms'. Thus, the Universe (the Source that is the flowing energy of Creation) subtly, but surely creates and manifests into my life whatever is necessary to complete the journey. Of this I am sure, for whatever I have asked for, I have received. The strength of the resolve of a Sikh, decides how much Bliss they live in on this earth, yes BLISS!. Sikhi is in my veins, it is a part of my very nature. It is the resolve that seperates achievement from lack of results. In almost any aspect of life, I feel we all need to go back to a few basic fundamentals to strive for daily achievement. This includes not one, or two, but all aspects of Sikhi that lead to Inspired Living, or Chardi Kala. Some of the aspects described below are now backed up by research to improving the ...
