Don't ignore foot pain It's not normal. If the pain persists, see a podiatrist.

Inspect your feet regularly Pay attention to changes in color and temperature of feet; look for thick or discolored nails (a sign of fungus); check for cracks or cuts in skin. Any growth on the foot is not considered normal.


Take care of your feet Wash regularly, especially between the toes, and dry completely. Trim toenails straight across, not too short. Don't cut nails in corners or on sides -- that can lead to ingrown toenails.

Buy and wear proper shoes Purchase shoes later in the day, when feet tend to be at their biggest. Choose a shoe that fits your activities (running, playing basketball). Replace worn-out shoes as soon as possible.

Alternate shoes Don't wear the same pair of shoes every day.

Avoid walking barefooted Your feet will be more prone to injury and infection.

See a podiatrist If you have diabetes, visit a podiatrist at least once a year for a check-up.
