Bitter concoctions are hard to swallow and even harder to make in the prescribed way. Many people do not prefer Ayurvedic treatment because of its long procedure of medications, its tedious process of combining medicines and bitter Kashayas. But people who have taken Ayurvedic treatment cannot turn a blind eye to its enduring benefits. This oldest system of medical healing uses only the natural way of treatment with hardly any side effects. Ayurveda stresses the importance of the purgation of the human body and the rejuvenation of it in its medical system. And hence the long list of medicines.

Ayurveda uses a variety of herbs in different proportions and combinations. This treatment not only helps the medical condition treated but also provides a cure to many others prevalent in the body. Hence the chances of side effects are rare and almost nil. At the same time, it can have many positive results in the future.

The Big Mistake
Panchakarma Chikitsa is an Ayurvedic regimen highly mistook as just a form of herbal massage. Because of the propagation of Kizhi Thirummal (massage) and Dhara, people tend to think that Panchakarma is just an oil massage especially with an eye for the high-earning tourism sector. Some people even believe that this can treat only a particular genre of diseases.

The Reality
In fact, Panachakarma is a rejuvenation therapy that cleanses the mind, the body and the consciousness. After the therapy the body gets purified of all its impurities and waste particles. It enhances the health and the self healing process of the body by removing the inherent toxins left behind by diseases and poor nutrition. Ayurveda recommends a seasonal Panchakarma treatment for a fine-tuning of the body.

What can Panchakarma do?
Panchakarma is applicable to all cases covering a wide range of preventive, curative, and promotive conditions. It is mainly applied in the case of chronic illnesses which cannot be helped through just medications and diet control. The modern man lives in a tight and busy schedule with a lot of botherations both of the mind and the body. He is tortured by psychological problems with an excess of stress and anxiety, worries and what not. Panchakarma can help with these emotional hiccups and also check digestion problems, insomnia, fatigue, diabetes and even cancer and heart diseases to an extent.

The Treatment
Diseases are generally caused by toxins and with the elimination of these poisononous substances the body tissues are left to self healing and restoration. The age old texts of Ayurveda recommend five different procedures of Panchakarma for the purification and healing of the body. Panchakarma works on the first principle of Ayurveda called Shodhana Chikitsa. Shodhana Chikitsa focuses on the elimination of the three doshas and maintaining the right balance between them.
